I recieved a shipment of snails yesterday. I decided to leave the smallest ones in the container with soil that they came in. Today, on closer inspection, I realized there were several VERY tiny bugs in with them that look like redish-brown spiders! I immediatly moved them to another container and washed them down. What could those things be??!!

I'm unsure as to what the bugs are but giving snail a bath in green tea can help kill pests. Also, baking the soil will kill anything in it.

Usually bugs that resemble miniature spiders are mites. Not sure if they could harm the snails, many mite species eat veg fluids but some like blood.

Sounds like some kind of mite, I'd wash / bath all the new snails in some green tea and change all the soil they have been in contact with. Repeat the baths a few times over the next week or so and change the soil again after those baths that should sort out the worst of the problem, I find it usually does with any mite problems that I've had with snails.
