Our pet garden snail, Gary, died this morning ??. I'm probably more upset then my kids. I loved him. Even before he died, we were looking around to buy or find more land snails. I never realized how much fun they are! Anyway, we have had ZERO luck finding a store that sells them. Anyone have any ideas?? We live in Nebraska. Thanks!!!

Sorry to hear about gary.
It's unlikely you will find anywhere that sells snails. The "typical" pet snails that can be sold in pet shops are various species of Achatina and Archachatina (commonly called Giant african land snails) these are illegal to keep in america and hence you will not find anyone who sells them (atleast not legally!). You're best bet is to find and keep native species instead such as you did with Gary.

So we went out hiking at the lake and found 3 babies (1 is quite large for a garden snail so he might be an adult) and a bark of tree that had dozens of teeny tiny baby snails. I left them in the bark until it got stinky then painstakingly picked out each one. I've removed 38 of these little guys and I'm still seeing more come out of the woodwork (pun intended) -- just removed 3 more lol. This site is great, by the way, lots of useful tips! Thanks!

New2snails how are your new snails doing? I'm looking for some land snails in the US as well! I've been unable to find any locally. If you still have tons and would be willing to ship (I'm in Wisconsin) I'd love to take a few off your hands! I think if they are shipped similarly to aquatic snails it would be pretty simple. I do have mystery snails and babies to trade as well!

Well not all snails. I've only kept aquatic snails, brigs or diffusa specifically, so that's the only kind I've been shipped. Well since canas are illegal to move across state lines anyway! It only specifically mentions GALs so I figured that other snails native to my area would be ok to ship. But thanks for the info! I'll have to look into it. Permits are pricey aren't they?
