No not biting as such, but on my travels on the web I have just read that iredalei have been known to have a much sharper mouth, in that when they rasp at you it can be uncomfortable. Well its funny, cos when I first recieved them I had them on my hand and suddenly had a sharpish (not quite but almost) pain. I thought maybe it had caught a small hair of mine. Now I am wondering.... What have other iredalei owners experienced? If they can hurt me now at this size what will they do later lol Nat

Do you want me to sit in the corner and rust, or just fall apart where I'm standing?

My fulica and dimidiata do too, and don't hurt, its just the iredalei that seem very sharp.

They're just trying to taste it, to see what it is and if it's worth eating.

I was in my kitchen the other day ironing - i had the lids off of the Brixton tiger tanks and i kept hearing this really loud rasping noise. I couldn't see any of them eating though. I kept watching and saw that 2 of them were eating (well, rasping hard at) their own shells! Why do they do this? There was a big chunk missing out of both their shells but i don't know if they were evening up a chip or if they had made it themselves by rasping at it! The noise was soo loud though - amazing!
None of the tigers will touch their cuttlefish though - have your touched any yet Paul?

That's odd coz yesterday I heard a similar noise and I couldn't find which snail was making it.
Mine have just eaten food at the moment, hemp and banana (as you recommended). I think they have been starved of calcium for a while and perhaps with them being wild-caught they haven't figured out that cuttlefish = calcium.
If you are worried, you could try crushing the cuttlefish and powdering onto banana etc. Then leave a few pieces near them. Hopefuly they'll put 2 and 2 together.

Aww cute. Mine making a little noise when eating, but they are only small at the moment. Hope they start on the cuttlefish soon, my dimidiata and iredalei are getting through loads but the fulica just aren't interested. I keep putting their food on top of it though so maybe thats an idea for you?

I thought that too Paul - that they didn't know that cuttle was calcium! Poor little things. I did give them some chicken moosh with hemp and other mixed seeds mixed in with it and they devoured that! The chicken mash contains added calcium so hopefully they will get enough until they realise where the calcium is hehe.
How are your tigers doing Paul?

really well so far, the biggest is a little shy, he hasn't moved much, unlike the others, but he has been sat out of his shell taking everything in. Both new ones have eaten. My margies who are completely settled now and very active made a big fuss of them

Well, it is possible they are farmed but that seems unlikely because of the variety of ages and sizes that were there. Even reared snails probably wouldn't understand what cuttlefish was because they will have been fed a "snail mix" with lots of calcium added. They'll figure it out in no time.
