I've read in that book I just got that snails can extract calcium out of rocks and shells by wrapping their foot around it and secrete some kind of acidic substance that disolves the stone or shell.I've seen my Margies doing this and was wondering if anybody else has observed this. The bad thing about this behaviour is that they will also do this with the shells of living snails...

Not noticed it 'cause mine have no rocks lol. My Fulica used to have a rock to hold their flowerpot down, but it was inside it so I wouldn't have seen anything. Ahh aren't I helpful

Hehehe I haven't noticed them doing it to shells either, although both my baby Fulica now have white marks on their shells, so maybe they've been rasping and doing this?

I already observed that, here, when I brought some argile that it´s rich in calcium, on the case of Fulicas.
