only one, but I figured the others should give birth to more than just the same color as the adult. I haven't looked at anything referencing the inheritance in cepaea though.

Order of genetic inheritance in stripes is: No stripes One stripe Three stripes Five stripes Sometimes stripes can "blend" together to make one big one; this is dominant, and the snail could genetically have several bands so could pass down various striping genes

Snaily update! I feed fish flakes on the roof because otherwise it's hard to clean up and gets mouldy, and I don't have anything small enough to fit in their tank. And yeah, I know they've outgrown this tank now, hoping to get a bigger one tomorrow

Wow I can't believe I haven't updated for so long! D: The snailsGanymede and Europa have taken to climbing on each other. Io is still greedy. Ganymede, I have only recently noticed, has kinked eyestalks. Io and Europa are still a match made in snaily heaven. The snailletsFirst day in the new tank. The second edition, now with moss. Omnomnom. He chilled like this for at least an hour, like a snaily hammock. If it's a snail is it called a snaily-back? Group hug <3 Peekaboo. Must... reach... lettuce... This little sod would not do what he was told and tried to make a break for it. I disciplined him with the smell of freshly washed hands.

Yesterday we went to Spurn Point, near Hull, and I brought home a new friend!
I went specifically looking for a solid yellow (my mam's boyfriend goes birding and he'd seen one), but all I found were piles of dead snails and not a solid in sight :/ Eventually I searched under some dry grass and found not only a disgruntled queen bee, but this tiny little snail, which I noticed was stuck on a leaf, and if it was stuck, it was still alive! I wasn't going to bring him home, being banded, but once he stuck his little eyestalks out at me I just couldn't leave him there :x In my defence, he is extremely yellow, and being from a different environment and miles away from the others will increase the genetic diversity of my... snail kennel?
He's half the size of the snaillets, can only be a few months old at most, I'd say two months, and he's very feisty for such a little snail. He wasn't phased by the snail box at all and went to sleep in about 10 minutes, then later started munching on some lichen I put in there on the way home in his first bumpy car ride. Later I held him and he started biting me, and by god he's got a good bite on him!

They're so pretty! I never come across Cepaeas with just 1 band and such bright colours on their shells in my area.

Great thread, I love Cepaea. Some of my wild caught snails bite, too! A good thing their mouths are so soft, they can hardly cause anything - but you can feel that they mean to!
