I have 3 zachrysia that are currently not very active because my tank temp is as high as 72 degrees and as low as 68. They need higher temps! They are south florida snails so they would be much happier with 75-85. But there is no way for me to increase the temp(I have tried with insulation, heating mats, lamps, etc). I am past the point of trying to change the temp because it is not going to happen. What are some snails species that I can legally have in Florida that are okay with these temps?? I want Bulimulus, but I know they require higher temps too! IDK what to do. I have tramps now that are okay with it, but I want some bigger snails that are okay with it too! Suggestions from anyone? Florida friends( mangoandlemon , gigas )?.

Gigas proved that zachrysia are able to withstand very cold temps. So I wouldn't worry about 68F lows too much...but I'm surprised that your house is that cold...and that the heat may doesn't help...what thermometer are you using? Maybe it's just broken. Also what type of insulation did you use?

Also what type of insulation did you use? I know that they are able to withstand my current Temps, they are just very inactive and don't eat as much because they prefer higher temps. I have used foam and tin foil insulation but it only brought the tank up by 1 degree. The thermometer is one of those color coded strips that stick onto the side of my tank. It isn't electric, more so a chemical reaction-oriented thermometer. The issue isn't having a species that can survive these temps, It is more that I want species that thrive under these temps. So they can be more active, more inclined to breed, and endure less stress.

If a heatmat didn't raise your tank temp it sounds like you either have an unsuitable tank for a heatmat (i.e. thick plastic tank walls), heatmat was too small, or you weren't using it correctly (not insulated, incorrectly positioned etc).

The tank is glass, i placed in on the side, it is insulated, and it is for 1-6 gallon tanks, my tank is 5 gallons. IDK why its not working for me.

Probably either too small or too low wattage to make a difference to the overall tank temp, or it's faulty. Does it get hot to the touch when switched on?
