Do snails like being handled? I notice EVERYTIME i handle my two snails they both try and crawl on eachothers shells, while amusing I do feel bad because I'm not sure if my skin is hurting them and they're trying to get away. I wash my hands with warm water (no soaps) and make sure my hands are moist too before handling. Heres a picture of their reaction

No, it's not your skin bothering them. Snails will naturally crawl on something which they felt near them with their tentacles (in this case another snail's shell).

yeah, I agree with Liguus, I've put 15-20 tramp snails on a paper plate before and have seen them cling together to form a giant snail-mound. Then, what generally happens is that being such strong creatures, one of the bottom snails will start crawling and therefore start pulling the whole mound across the plate, its really exciting, lol.

My snail really enjoys being picked up for some reason, he comes out of his shell and sits on my hand when I pick him up.

All of mine take handling differently. My four zachrysia provisoria snails are obviously nocturnal like all snails are, but they seem super nocturnal! Well, Gemma and Jewel seem too lazy to ever come out except really late at night. Some days Garnet is really spiffy and we'll crawl around my hand, and Topaz can be lazy but recently he's been adventurous and has explored my hand! Rocky, my tiny Ventridens Suppressus, is usually in the mood for crawling around my hand, and so is Sadie, my Arion Distinctus. Now let's talk about Drifter. He is a Mesoden Thyroidus. This guy is Mr. Personality. It doesn't matter what time of day or night you pick him up. He crawls out of his shell, waves those eye stalks, licks my skin, and climbs all around my hand! Drifter has no idea what fear even is...I think it's because I saved him from drowning in the creek. I saw him on a rock surrounded by water in the creek and he drifted into the water (hence the name). My friend and I got a net and saved him just in time. He took a minute to come out of his shell, and after that, he is always coming to my hand when I'm doing things in the tank. He also eats EVERYTHING. He ate a whole rock of cuttlefish bone during the night (it's his favorite food and you can hear him eating it and you can see all the little tongue marks from him scraping) and he also loves Cucumber! He plowed a cucumber in half a few days ago. He's a growing boy!

I try and handle mine every so often. My retics are old now and have been handled since birth, so aren't phased at all with me checking them out. My degneri are more subtle and appear a little sheepish when handled, however. I like to think it depends on the snail's personality.
