My Mesoden Thyroidus (or at least that's what I think he is, he's wild caught) named Drifter has always had just a normal shell, but tonight I noticed he has a whitish tan lip on his shell. Note that just yesterday in the afternoon I handled him a bit and his shell looks normal. However, tonight when he crawled onto my hand, I noticed he has this lip. He's been acting normal and everything. So, do you think Drifter might be a different kind of snail then I mentioned above or why does he suddenly have this lip? These pics aren't that good but I just snapped them a few minutes ago....

Well, a full lip will not form overnight but you're probably seeing the begging of a thicker lip. All Mesodon will have a noticeable lip once they mature.

I have been quite surprised and amazed by how quickly some of my snails have developed shell lips... Like HelixPomatia said, Mesodons do get lips, like my own Mesodon thyroidus, Ember. So, likely he is a mesodon thyroidus, or some sort of Mesodon.

Oh, that's cool! So do you think he might be a baby? When do the lips begin to develop?

To my knowledge, a snail develops a lip when they are fully grown/mature, so he probably has been a juvenile

Oh, ok, cool! It'll be nice to watch him grow. Is that a mesoden on your profile pic? It has a cool lip!

The snail in my profile picture, named Bismuth, is probably one of the prettiest snails I have, in my opinion. I believe that they are a queen crater snail, or Appalachina chilhoweensis, but I'm not positive about that

Oh ok. Whatever it is, it's pretty! I found one a few months that looks JUST like that but the shell was empty. That looks a lot like Drifter's shell!

I'm not the best at ID'ing polygyridae snails off the top of my head either since all their shells are very similar, but I think that is an Appalachina. Appalachina and Mesodon are close relatives though, so their shells look extremely similar.

He is a growing boy I think! He eats so much, and he loves his cuttlebone! I put a huge leaf of romaine lettuce in for the snails yesterday and today I woke up to see the bowl empty with Drifter sitting in it! He must have ate almost the whole leaf, because the four of my zachrysias have been digging all week and my tiny ventridens suppressus, Rocky, only ate a bite of it. Good to know he likes lettuce!

I looked up Appalachian snails and this picture came up. It looks like it could be Drifter's identical twin! XD

My snails (gals) also love their lettuce, but they only get it as a treat now, what with it being of no nutritional value to them, but sweet potato and courgette are a very close 2nd.
