Hey y'all, I've got a Mesoden Thyroidus named Drifter who has always been an eater, but this week he's been eating like CRAZY. He ate an entire romaine lettuce leaf on Wednesday, half a romaine lettuce leaf on Thursday, some carrot yesterday, and a good chunk of a leaf of spinach today. Is it okay that he's eating so much? Should I not feed him for a day? My zachrysia provisoria don't spend much time on the surface anyway and they've been down under since about a month ago. Under the dirt, not in Australia. My ventridens suppressus named Rocky has eaten a good amount this week too (nothing that concerns me, but a normal amount) so a day without food wouldn't starve him! Drifter usually eats a good amount of food every day, but this week has been insane. Also, I don't think Drifter is a fully matured Mesoden Thyroidus. So, is Drifter eating too much?

I know that snails can overdose on calcium and other nutrients, but I'm not sure about overeating. Since he isn't fully mature, I would think eating a lot to grow would be fine... when they were still growing, my Z. porsovia babies would go through two or three romaine lettuce leaves per day, in addition to feasting on cuttlebone. I did read about some GALS that ate too much pasta and became bloated, later dying, but If I remember correctly, that was from too much starch, so it shouldn't happen with lettuce.

Snails only overdose on calcium if humans mix it into their foods, spray it all over their soil, etc. If there's a separate, good calcium source (or a few) in the tank that the snail can decide when to use, it won't be a problem as they know how much they need.
Make sure your snails get a variety of vegetables of different colours. Bingeing may be a sign of them trying to find a nutrient that's not there. Though, in the case of lettuces it often appears they eat a lot of it when actually lettuces are quite watery; if you offer a slice of for example sweet potato, you'll see they get full much faster.

I have a cuttlefish bone in their tank, I don't force them to consume calcium. Today Drifter and Rocky have been munching on carrots! Yesterday I took their food out for a few hours.

Snails in general know when to stop eating. Unless you force calcium in them by mixing calcium in everything that they eat, I don't think a snail would overdose on anything. They would simply stop munching on it.
