Hello all
I just wanted some advice as lately, my Pear has been deeply retracted into her shell and falling off the sides of the tank. When I get her out she pops out to see me and snails about on my hand and likes being stroked but as soon as I put her in the tank again she won't travel far before retracting again. She's been off her food for just over a week. I've tried hand feeding her but she won't take anything. The temp and humidity are fine and nothing has changed. She is nearly 5 now so I'm unsure if its just her age? Why do snails retract so deeply into their shells?
Thanks

Heya, I'm afraid I can't give any insight into why the retract like that, but my Jims been doing the same, retracting to sleep and coming out when poked. He's doing okay 7 months on, still retracting etc but not bad. I'd just say every so often give him a protein bath to keep his weight up, and that'a only an issue if he doesn't eat, which Jim goes through bouts of not. Hope pear is okay xx

I'm not sure if others have different ways but I get a tub with tepid water and throw some fish flakes in,sometimes some spirulina if he really hasn't been eating, swish it around a bit and put the snail in. The hope is that even if they don't eat the fish food they'll get some of the nutrients I've also used super squishy dog biscuits too when I ran out of fish flakes, hope it helps! X
