I recently acquired these guys from someone else and one of them seems really bloated. I can't quite get answers through Google and it doesn't look like any of the things I've seen online so far so I'm here, asking. He's an adult helix aspersa who, for the first week in my care, was normal. Then a few days ago I noticed he was hanging out of his shell when everyone else was sleeping. The humidity is kept pretty high, about 70%. He's on coco fiber with a fairly good diet of green leafy lettuce, kale, artichoke, Brussel sprouts, carrots, apples, potato peel, cabbage, and snail mash (taken directly from the feeding thread, so hemp seed, pumpkin seed, sunflower kernel, layer pellets, all ground up into a fine powder soaked for a few minutes before offering every few days). He also bubbles quite a bit, which I've read is a poisoning thing, or when they get a bad taste. Here are some pics. He seems super active and I wondered if he had recently mated with one of the other aspersa but I'm so confused and concerned. I already lost four of the snails to the bad conditions they had been in so I'd like to prevent more losses. I always make sure my hands are clean before handling them, and we don't use chemicals in the house so what could be happening?

thats also happening to my cepaea Hortensis its been there from the moment i caught him until now (it slowly receded over time i don't know how it happened) and it didn't really concern me all that much cause he's always active and eating well so i guess your snail is fine for me

Maybe he's just really, really fat? He is super active so it doesn't seem like he's sickly, just looks weird.

yeah if the snail is wild caught basic instinct tells him that if theres food eat it right away because they don't know when they can eat again in the wild to he just stockpiled on food which made him fat and look bloated after some time he'll realise that the food wont go away and he wont need to eat as much

I think the snail is fine, if he's active and eating. The poop looks normal too. He may just have been mating a bit more roughly, some swelling is common after that. There was a recent thread about an aspersa a lot more swollen than that and even he was fine in the end.
The bubbles can mean a lot of things, starting from just a bad mood or being startled, to actual pain. But you seem to have the basics ok, so I suppose he's just being grumpy and maybe tender.
Keep us updated though.

i have experienced this with my helix aspersa as well, some of them appeared to be pregnant and some of they where not. But they never got sick or died after getting this symptom. I think it is harmless
