grr, just noticed Moe (new albino margie) eating his shell. He has cuttle fish, but is yet to touch it, and has flaked/crushed oyster shell but i don't think he's touched that either. he is eating well and this is the first time i've seem him eating the shell . should i leave him be and hope he goes for the cuttle fish/ oyster shell in the next couple of days? just worried

Are you sure he is actually eating it?My Margies sometimes seem to eating their shells but they are just sort of cleaning it,not unlike cats do.

he is probably just smoothing his shell off for new growth

he's taken a couple of mm off from one side- you can see the difference in the 'rings'- he might be smoothing it off but 2/3mm seems quite a bit. but i might be being paranoid??

Yes that is quite a bit, maybe you can make a cuttlepaste and then put it on the spot where he eats the shell.

break the cuttlefish bone into smaller pieces to encourage moe to eat it rather than his shell, and i dunno wot else, arno's idea sounds good tho.
