Hello all , Just a bit of a random question. Would a small snail (Pleurodonte marginella) and a larger snail (achatina) be able to interact? I'm not on expert on snails or how they react to others, but I'm curious given I have a pleurodonte snail coming in the mail soon. I already have an achatina (can't remember the specific species but they are smaller than most-- a large snail but not quite as big as my entire hand.) Both snails will have their own separate terrariums of course, I'm just wondering because I like to take my snails out usually twice a week. I worry the bigger snail would crush the little snail's shell which is why I separated their terrarium first off. I'm just wondering if they will be safe to interact asides from that, like if their species have germs harmful to the other. Both of these snails were bred in captivity by a breeder and in fact come from the same breeder.

I don't know about the germs, but the size difference will probably not be a problem. I keep Theba pisana, Cornu aspersum and Otala lactea in the same tank and they don't seem to harm each other, not even accidentally.

Oh that's good! I wouldn't think they would have any toxic germs, as they're both captive bred but I really don't know. Though I do remember the breeder told me it would be okay to keep my helix aspersa with my achatina as long the helix was captive bred too.

Usually contagious diseases and parasites come from wild snails, so if both are captive bred it's probably safe. But the size difference is bigger than I thought, I think it's best to keep them separated. I also remember reading somewhere that if the snails look too different they won't recognize their roommate (terrariummate?) as another snail so they won't interact much, but I'm not sure about that.

I see! Thank you, I will keep them in separate terrariums in that case. I'll see if they interact when I take them out on eating occasions.
