Hi,
So around 3 years ago, I got my first 2 Giant African Land Snails (who I presume were not related), who then produced eggs, of which I kept a few. Sadly, one of the parents died last year. Recently I have been a few egg batches and decided to keep a few of them and raise them. It's only just came into my mind how they're all related, so either the parent and the child are mating or the siblings. They're snails - they have no morals, thank Christ. I am worried in case in the long run they have mutations/issues because they were created by close blood relatives, like what happens other animals including humans. If you know of any issues by this, or if it is fine, or any ideas to help it if it is an issue, and if there are issues then how many generations will it take to arise then please do reply. All help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike.

Hi there I think inbreeding affects snails- I've had many snails - some that were inbred with other siblings and as a result they wouldn't grow and tended to suffer from deep retraction problems and pass away early. I don't know how many generations of inbreeding it was though- I think its difficult to measure and would probably take a few generations of inbreeding for any issues to pop up- I don't really know about genetics but its just something I've experienced with inbred snails. Hope this helps
