My friend was wondering how you tell the snails apart. I just got new ones, so I'm still trying to figure it out myself. Is it true you can put a little paint on their shells to help identify them? I've just been trying to remember the patterns of their stripes!

I've never bothered to differentiate them. Honestly I never saw a reason to do so. As long as I have a breeding population in my terrariums that's al I care about. I kind of just appreciate them as a whole if that makes any sense.

I don’t identify my bulimulus snails. I do identify my helix aspersa, but I only have 3 adults. One is significantly larger than a normal sized adult, and I’ve had him the longest. He’s the only one with a name (Snorlax). One of the other average sized adults had a calcium deficiency when young and rasped his own shell, so I can tell him apart easily from the other average sized adult.

I only have two aspersum, so it's easy for me. I like to be able to tell them apart, and they have names, but I understand that not everyone likes to do that! For mine, one has a noticeably lighter color shell between the stripes than the other. Telling them apart by stripe pattern or any marks on the shell would also be good ways to do it.
