I'm new here from Georgia (close to Atlanta) & I'm very techno challenged so I don't know how to post pictures & I'm probably WAY TOO OLD to be taking part in a forum anyway. I have 3 Mystery/Apple snails (not sure of the difference) & one adorable small blackish/blue double tail betta the container said he was "Mustard" (can't figure that one out:-(). Either way I was a total disaster w/my first betta who passed away after only 4 months. I think my husband & I did EVERYTHING wrong. Hopefully we've learned & r doing things right now w/Little Blue. My ? here is about my snails however. One has laid 2 egg clutches (I guess that's what you call them) that are in my Fluval Spec V tank. When I bought the 2 from a very reputable aquatic store I had no idea of their sexes. I love Mystery/Apple snails, but I'm not sure I can successfully raise A WHOLE BUNCH of them. Does anyone have any suggestions. I also have a VERY LARGE snail in w/my one betta in a 10g Aqueon filtered/heated/live planted aquarium, but DO NOT want to put anything else in w/them they are doing well just the 2 together. Thank you ahead of time for suggestions

Hi hickoryflat30188 and welcome to the forum, Unfortunately I have never kept aquatic snails so can't advise you on their care, but if you're unable to care for many baby snails then the best thing to do would be to remove the eggs from the tank and destroy them humanely (freezing or boiling) before they start to develop.

I totally agree with you but I have been able to come up with some very humane and good results for these nails IF they even hatch. in all honesty as I watched the clutches I can't imagine that I'm really going to get any baby snails from them, but we'll see and I'll keep everybody posted. Thanks again and he helped anybody else can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I wish I had advice for you! I'm very interested in how it goes with the eggs! Good luck!

Sorry have not posted in a LONG time. Since my last post I have become quite proficient in breeding Mystery snails. I have raised most of them to an age where I have been able to rehome them at the Aquatic store where I originally purchased the parents. I absolutely love the little things & have kept at least 1-4 from the viable clutches that actually hatched. I have also had to unfortunately freeze several clutches due to not have space to raise them. Truly I wasn't even sure if they were viable clutches or not. My aquatic store even said they were getting too many from me so I had to find a second aquatic store. I don't feel as comfortable rehoming my babies w/them as I do the original store. I feel totally responsible for these little cuties. For any of you that have never indulged in acquiring an aquatic snail do try the Mystery snail. I have also tried Nerites, pond & Ramshorn snails. They are nowhere near as interesting or easy to control as the mystery ones. If you research enough you'll learn how to decipher the males from the females and can better control their #'s. As far as my betta fish experiences they have been somewhat difficult. I lost "Little Blue" (my second betta when his gorgeous fins were sucked up & torn up into my filter intake). Another traumatic lesson learned, but I was NOT giving up since I absolutely LOVE the bettas. I now have a red female veil tail named AnnaLeigh & she's just lovely a true to the betta personality. Hope all of you are well & thoroughly enjoying the hobby.
