We've been getting lots of rain, so I put out some watermelon rind to see what I could find. I got many slugs and 2 different kinds of snails! One I believe is an amber snail that was ID'd on this forum before. The other one is much smaller - only about 3/8" round. I also got a few much tinier snails the size of a pinhead that I think are the same species. I threw together a home out of an aquarium until I can research it better. I would appreciate an ID of the small dark snail and confirmation of the amber. I live in US - Michigan.
Now what to feed them? They seem to like the watermelon rind. So far rejecting the romaine lettuce. What else? Thanks!
ETA: OK, why is the Photobucket stamp on the pics and how do I get rid of it? If you can't access the public album to view the pics, let me know and I will find a different photo host. Grrr...
Amber?

Hi marigold, yes, true enough, your first picture shows an amber snail (Succinea/Oxyloma). For your other pictures you need a US-snail-specialist........... . Kind regards: wolf

Thank you, wolf.
Does anyone know how to get around this Photobucket watermark thing? It must be something new. I don't see these on other people's photos. What photo hosting sites are others using? Never was a fan of Photobucket anyway.

Some thoughts on an ID:
Is the umbilicus open? If so I might suggest something in the genus Oxychilus for the little dark guy. Since they're introduced from Europe it's pretty likely you could find them in an American garden. Plus they have dark bodies and are small. He's a bit big to be a garlic snail (Oxychilus alliarius) but if he smells like garlic when annoyed, that's your species. But his shell seems a bit rough and opaque for Oxychilus.
Anyone else have ideas to narrow it down? I'm more familiar with PNW species.

Hi Kari,
I think the umbilicus is closed. Here is a better pic, hopefully. I decided to put the snails back where I found them. They just seemed happier in their own habitat. I may put a vivarium together in the fall before winter and try it again. I'm just thrilled I found so many here. Hope these links work. Thanks to littlegoldsnail for the photo host suggestion. It is much easier to use!
