Hello! This is my first post on this website, as well as my first snail I’ve ever owned. Mine doesn’t seem a lot like other snails on this website, and they have some interesting behaviors I’d like to talk about.
my new and first ever snail Sonic, is extremely small. (Photos attached) and it’s near impossible to get a photo for identification. I did some research and came up with that he may be a succius putris, a type of amber snail. He has a very thin brown shell, with a yellow stripe on one side, and only the main portion of the shell and the spire. There’s only one whorl- or so I’ve learned with research.
When I first got him, he was very active and would move all around his container, but after about a week he became much less active. I’ve been giving him either bottled water or filtered water. He has a small bottle cap that I fill with water daily, as well as put a drop on him with a syringe. I’ve noticed that recently, he will remain in the same place in his container for an extended period of time. I used some tweezers to gently nudge him, but he was extremely firmly rooted in place, so I wouldn’t force him and risk injuring him. I’ve been putting a drop of water on him and nudging him slightly, and eventually he becomes unstuck and begins to move around. After he’s unstuck, there is an outline of dried slime where he was sitting. I’m worried that the humidity is too dry and it’s causing his slime to adhere him in place, and he can’t move. He now spends almost 24/7 stuck to the wall inside his shell.
next, Ive been giving him a variety of foods that are recommended, but I’ve never seen him eat. I’ve given him
lettuce
carrots
strawberry
banana
cat food
apple
a celery leaf (I later found out this was bad for him, and removed it)
as well as various leaves from my yard that I’ve cleaned. I’m not sure how quickly snails grow, but he’s definitely gotten no bigger. When I remove the food, I notice that there are no nibble marks on it whatsoever- and I’m worried he’s gonna starve. Is he just so small that it’s impossible to see his nibble marks?
He has leaves, small stones, cleaned eggshell (for calcium), food, his water dish, and some small sticks, and a small bit of a bendy straw in his container. I’m unable to get substrate of any kind during the pandemic unfortunately. Is there something I can do to help him, or is this okay/normal??
Anyway, thank you for your help and time!
