Hi everyone, My snail (Helix Pomatia) slept for a while this summer and he just woke up yesterday and was not eating. I found it surprising and I inspected him. I found out that his jaw (the brown part that he uses to scrape the food) is not in its usual place. It seems to be “hanging out” of its place and is lopsided, protruding on one side. The upper part of it is strange and seems kind of swollen. My snail can not use it at all. Furthermore, when he stuck out his radula (I think his jaw bothers him and he was trying to push it or put it back in place) it doesn’t seem normal either. It seems there is a “bubble” on it. He is really hungry, having just awoke from quite a long sleep, so he tried food many times but wasn’t successful. I gave him puréed apple, which he actually succeed to eat for a while, but after a while he stopped and since then, hasn’t been able to eat again, even though I gave him salad I reduced to a purée as well. I really don’t know what to do, and it breaks my heart to see him like this. Has anyone any idea as to what can be done? How can I help him? And what is happening to him? Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give. Here are some pictures. imgur.com/a/sdJvgFP

I have seen this happening to snails that are kept too warm AND too humid. Sometimes their condition improved when they were were kept at a cooler place. Helix pomatia is very sensitve to higher temperatures, anything above 27°C can be lethal, especially when combined with high humidity. They can only withstand higher temperatures when they are inside their shells and dormant.
Try to keep your snail cooler. Offering pureed food is a good idea, try carrots, sweetpotatoe, oatmeal...

Thank you very much for your answer. It’s been a very hot summer, but inside the house I usually managed to keep the temperature under 27 degrees. My snail has been dormant most of the summer anyway, waking up only once or twice for a very short time, during which he usually ate a little bit before going back to sleep. I will try to find a cooler place where I can put him in the house and to make sure his terrarium isn’t too humid. Thanks for the food suggestion, I gave him some carrots but I will also try the others! I really hope following your advice can help him improve.
