hello, today i was cleaning the uneaten food out of my snails' tank and i noticed 2 things:
- in their wet food, i found some tiny beige-ish worms im assuming were larvae (i just moved & my previous residence had some gnats/fruit flies and maybe one got in)
- i removed that food dish and all of the worms. when i went to pick up the uneaten veg, i realized there were very very tiny bugs wriggling around underneath. they seemed to have burrowed further into the coir because i couldnt see them after that.
i know that snails live amongst lots of bacteria & tiny creatures, so i'm not too panicked. my snails have been up and moving around irregardless.
can someone let me know if i need to worry? note: the soil in there is pretty saturated with water
if anyone can respond quick, thank you. i'd like to put in fresh food for them but i wont do so until im sure. i dont want those tiny things to get on/in the snails or destroy their food ;|
thank you
- KKIRA

Hello, I have dealt with fly larvae and regular worms before and in my case the larvae were only in the food bowl so I just put them outside, washed the dish, disposed of the food and they never came back. I can’t imagine fly larvae posing any threat to your snails, however, if your aren’t entirely sure what they are- especially if they seem to be crawling on your snails, the best thing to do is thoroughly clean the tank out, replace the substrate and wash your snails. If you’re worried about parasites or other pests I recommend dipping the food in boiling water before giving it to them to kill any eggs or bugs that could be living on the vegetables, I do this often as my tanks are very prone to pests. Hope this helps.
