We have some garden snails - keeping them indoor. One of them slips out of the shell - not sure if it shrank, has a problem, etc. Any ideas what we can do? Any specific soil, food etc. that we should pay attention to? Cannot find a way to attach an image (new to this forum). With many thanks, Alexis

Unfortunately this can happen to Cornu aspersum - the reasons for this are still unclear. One possible reason might be a parasite that lives between shell and mantle (it's a nematode called "angiostoma aspersae"), the other reason might be conditions being too warm and too humid. Here is an image of a Cornu aspersum that slipped out of its shell: petsnails.proboards.com/thread/8863/snail-come-free#post-82741( in case I got the link to the image wrong, this is the complete thread: petsnails.proboards.com/thread/8863/snail-come-free ) The sad news is, there is not much you can do. If the snail is still attached to its shell you can try to keep it dryer and cooler and hope that this will help. If the snail has already slipped out of its shell it will shurely die within 3 days - you should put it into a freezer or boiling water. There is no hope for that poor snail.

Thank you for your reply, Rasplutin. If it's indeed a parasite, how should we protect the others - change the soil, etc? All our snails lived together in a terrarium until a couple of days ago, when we isolated the one that looked sick. Maybe we should change their water and food more often? Anything else?
