I've had snails for years now, but my current ones are having issues. These snails are a couple years old at least.
I have a large exo Terra tank with an automatic mister. Substrate is coco fibre. I feed them Romain lettuce, pre mixed snail foods from Etsy, carrot, cucumber, squash, etc. They have calcium and cuttlebone. The species are Cepea nemoralis and bulimulis. I used to have Helix pomatia.
Most of my snails have died, and there are hardly any babies. It is happening extremely quickly as well. One day I checked on all of them. They were all moving after I disturbed them. A couple were retracted. Two days later three Cepea died and the shells were falling apart.
I tried changing substrates but nothing changed. I've tried increasing the times they get misted.
There are a lot of fungus gnats. When I took the food out a few days ago I noticed a lot of the gnat maggots. Could this be an issue?
I think I'm going to take all the snails out and keep them in a smaller container. Then let the regular tank dry out so any gnats die.
Could it just be old age all at once? Or is there something weird happening. These snails were doing great.
