Hello!! It’s been so long
I used to respond to every thread on here, but my health started to decline in some areas, so I stepped away from the snail groups for a little while.
But I am back! And if I remember to, I will keep checking in here.
I have a general question for anyone who wants to answer though. I have some pretty good experience with snails, and so I enjoy doing research about them. And recently, both of my large snail tanks have been invaded by mites (I forget the species name, but you know what I mean) And at first I bathed everyone and cleaned the tank, hoping to sway the problem away because I was too busy to deal with mites. I have a lot of snails too, I own a rescue, so you can only imagine how I felt. This isn’t such a simple problem. I finally combined both tanks into one MASSIVE tote. Which has been so much better, btw. And then I bought some Hypoaspis miles (predatory mites) When they came in, I didn’t see much, and ofc I knew were small, so I wasn’t totally sure they were dead, etc. but I added some in, and I’m not so sure they did anything, or if they arrived alive. I will check the snails tomorrow morning, to see what the results are so far. If nothing has changed, I’ll just dump the entire thing of mites in (hopefully that’s not a bad idea lol, hopefully there aren’t too many mites still alive) and see if that makes a difference. I really need to focus on this though, because the longer I wait, the better chance the snails have at dying. I have to leave town tomorrow for an overnight trip, but as soon as I get back I have fall break to investigate. The snails have been super inactive as of lately, but I plan to change that.
So let me know, what was YOUR experience with Hypoaspis miles? What do they look like when you open the container of them? Are they very noticeable? Did they work for you? And where did you get them (I’m in the US, so I woudl love recommendations for where to buy some)
Thanks so much, and I hope you all enjoy reading!! <3
