Hello, I am here to ask advice on my snail who seems to have an injured mantle. I have kept him in a small tub which limits his climbing, and of course stops other snails climbing on him and pulling his shell, for around a week now, but I am seeing no improvement. I am wondering if this just takes more time. (I do feel sorry for him not being with his friends) Here is an image: imgur.com/5g4IrxYThank you.

This looks like a Cornu aspersum having a swollen mantle.
I do not know how you keep your snails, a common cause for a swollen mantle is a too humid and/or a too warm environment.

Thanks for your reply. I do have other Cornu aspersum and no other of them have a swollen mantle so I didn't think it could be this. I do manage the humidity and heat my snails live in.

Hi yellowsnail, I agree with Rasplutin, it looks to be a swollen mantle. If you don't think there's any problem with the environment, snails can get swollen mantles for literally no reason, but I've also seen it happen after mating, or as a result of eating something with something they don't react well with- I suppose pesticides and other chemicals. I haven't had personal experience with puffy mantles but if no other snail has it it's probably not something that they've eaten or they'd all have them. It'll probably fix itself on its own- I know puffy mantles are particularly common in cornus- in the next few weeks but do try keeping them at a lower temperature and humidity, it might well help.
