Just wondered if you had thought about (probably already got) a realtime chatroom. Maybe I wouldn't post so many messages about unimportant stuff then ;D Would be nice to have a chat to the other members. Anyone else interested? I don't mind sorting it if thats what it means

I have thought about it but it comes with loads of problems. Me and Daz from snails2die4.com have tried various ones in an effort to get one that is not java so it will work in other browsers. Also, you need to not have to be invited to join and we need to be able to save the transcripts.
I'm still looking but I've not had loads of time. If you can find one that satifies the above I'll have it on in a shot coz I do think it is a good idea.

Mmm I'm not that clever was only thinking of like the equivelant to the old msn rooms lol. You wouldn't need to invite people for them to join, but don't know about anything else. They all need you to download some kind of chat software I think, and don't know about browsers only use IE or msn explorer I'll see if Jas knows anything when he gets home

They only thing i can think of is the chatroom of Cybersnail...

In both cases there are problems, we tried them both and others.
Cybersnail is java so people couldn't get on and you can't save transcripts.
MSN suffers the same as Yahoo. Conferences work only when you start them, you can't add users once it has begun. And the rooms thing, wasn't working for some people. Yahoo was the same, only I had "Go to room" facility and no-one could create a room that showed up in the global list.

Only other thing I can think of that works on 99.9% of pc's, is simple msn messenger, you can have umpteen people in a conversation, and if you switch it on... it automatically logs all your conversations. You do have to invite people to the conversations but I've never had a problem with this. We'd all need to add each other to the contacts list so if you do it might be an idea to have a seperate acount for this group, I already have loads of contacts so would be confusing. Just an idea though, its free, simple and can log the chats. Oh and you could put a list of contact addresses for people to add on the forum and/or website.

Can you try that out for me? We tried MSN messenger and the invite thing wouldn't work. Well, I use GAIM instead which is a 3rd party thing that pretends to be MSN messenger and guess what? It works better, it was fine for me. The problem is, people can't just join in.

irc !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
download mirc, besirc, chatzilla etc ....
can create a room, always will be there, and mirc logs chats. voila.
i can set up the room and everything and then point everyone to the software and provide means to make it 100% free and then provide a walkthrough for setting it up.
if ya want. will take two minutes.

You misunderstand me!
Ceiron, we need a non-java IRC room. If you can find one let me know.
Nat, I do mean MSN messenger, GAIM in just an alternative so I don't have to suffer M$ programs. And it works better. If you can create a room that I can just join without invitation let me know. Create one and I'll try and join it. But we tried all this and people couldn't get in.
Also, is there a Mac version MSN messenger? Linux/Unix users can use Kopete/Gaim etc but I'm not sure about Mac users. And we had a few of them.
I'm just saying that we don't want to exclude non-windows people of which I am one.

ok, little experiment here.lol for windows users - Download mIRC www.mirc.com/And then follow these instructions that were given to me when I first joined. Installing MIRC · Download and install IRC from www.mirc.com· Open the program · Go to options · Then click the connect category · Fill in details such as nick1, nick 2 email etc etc · Next to where it says server, click add · In description, type petsnails · In server type put irc.webmaster.com · The port is 6667 · Then click add or ok · That should take you to a big window with a connect to server · Click that · When the server is connected, go to channel folders options · Type #petsnails and click join ok, other platforms, i have aboslutely no idea, but can figure it out with a bit of help, so bear with me. i can also sort out options/settings for other windows programs, such as chatzilla and besirc. and if ya download mirc, pm me your full name. (will become clear.lol)

I'll have a go at setting it up, coz I use Debian Linux. And I'll give you a shout. The port you mention. Is it an active or passive connection and is it udp or tcp?

Ok, I tried the IRC thing and it worked beautifully!! Nice one Ceiron!, never used IRC much and everywhere I looked and everyone we tried seemed to be java. This client side thing is better. If any one uses Linux and needs help installing/configuring xchat let me know. But, you can basically choose any IRC client.
So we have a chat room now. Excellent. I'll start a new thread with these instructions.
