Just had an idea while perusing the classifieds. Would it be a good idea to change the name to "Private Classifieds" and have a dedicated suppliers section to the forum (or is there one already - I'm useless so ignore that bit if there is) - where folks can find out more about those selling via shops or as suppliers?
On another classifieds board I've seen, it's inundated (sp?) by scammers, and it'd be awful if that happened here. Maybe changing the title to show it's for private sales/rehomes - then pointing shops/suppliers to the relevent section on here? Then people can ask them about their business, and find out whether they're genuine or not - and it also means suppliers wouldn't have their classifieds posts deleted for looking like scams when they could they be genuine?

Not a bad idea as such, but I like the idea of people giving reviews of shop/suppliers(like we have here)better. That way there'll be a more objective list available. If professional suppliers/shops want to advertise here they should make a donation to keep this site running.(but that's just my opinion)

Just another idea re the classifieds, I think it would be good if we could ask questions about the snail/snails for sale like we used to when it was part of the forum. Oh I do miss the classifieds being on the forum Val

Hmm some good ideas methinks. Is it just me being a numpty but when I go in the new classifieds section and click on offered - loads of wanted ads come up as well? Is that a hitch or just the way people are setting up their ads? I keep having to trawl through wanted ads in the offered section to find out if there is anything exciting!

Oh I do miss the classifieds being on the forum Val I agree that would be a good idea, i prefered the classifieds when it was part of the forum a lot more as well. Its a good idea to stop scammers posting on the new board, or maybe appoint a moderator on there to delete questionable posts? i havent seen any scammers there yet though, and with the African ones its easy to find out if theyre scammers or not, just question whether they expect all the payment after the safe arrival of the snails, and whether they replace dead snails, if they cant do both theyre most likely a scammer.

I think what we have currently works and I think suppliers/shops should need to pay something to advertise here. Brian.

You can ask questions... just email the seller like you would on any free ads board?
I think it needs to be accepted that classifieds does not work on the forum. For the reason of its too much work to clean/delete or lock old threads from classifieds. It becomes absolutely flooded with wanted ads, and then its a pointless section with 2 year old threads being ressurected by those who dont pay attention to post dates. People look back at forum classifieds with rose tinted glasses, it was wall to wall "I want albino snails!" just before it was removed.
Paul if you needed funding for the site, that would be a good idea, you could offer post space on a special section. I have to wonder how many sellers would be interested though?

I actually prefer the new classifieds now, it's just the problem of scammers that worries me. Yes it's all very well emailing them to ask what their policies are, but then you open yourself to even more junk mail (as if them emailing directly wasn't bad enough - not recently I must add - just whinging). I think shops and importers/suppliers whatever you call them should have to pay to advertise also, it would be a great way of subsidising PS? Could rid those ads at the top of the forum lol Not that they bother me - just an idea!
