Hello,
As I'm looking to expand my snail collection, I'll need bigger living quarters for them! Can anyone recommend a good site to buy tanks from? Plastic preferably as obviously much lighter, although the biggest ones I've seen have been glass.
Thank you!
Daisy xx
PS. Another quick question - can snails be posted from Europe to England or is that a bit of a trek for them?! Especially when it's so cold!

Thanks! Sounds like a trip to Homebase or the like may be in order!

I got my plastic tubs from Wilkos, they are very cheap and light weight. All I do is drill some holes on the lids. I like the plastic one as they tend to keep the moist and heat in better. (I have tried proper glass tanks for reptiles.) My snails have not complained that they are not good yet. ;D

It´s of course possible to ship snails from Europe to Britain BUT the weather needs to get warmer to do so. Southern Europe (Apple comes from Portugal) it should be possible already yet. Currently it´s an absolutley NONO from Austria (-10 C degree brrr).

Thanks, I figured it would be pretty cold in most places at the moment! Glad England not as chilly!

Yep storage boxes are your best bet if you want them big. I got my two big ones and the little one from a local cheapy bits and bobs shop (not really sure what to call it lol they sell loads of different things and most are cheap). Cost me just over a tenner for all 3 with lids ;D
If you have any cheapy places check them first, they might have a better deal going on than the diy places. If not, some places sell ones on wheels (I think Lisa has some) so that might be handy for moving them.

Try B&Q economy propogators if you fancy something which doesnt need any modding for ventilation, and easier to clean.
Essentially a giant propogator, 11.75 each, big enough for adult snails, nice clear tops with closable vents?
Because the base and lid are separate theyre easier to clean than those big storage boxes and you can see through the top.

Or if you want to go REALLY big, then try a rabbit hutch, I have 2 of these, they are a metre long, 20" wide x 16" deep. £29.95 from Seapets.co.uk.

Well, on the inside of the lid I fixed some plastic shading with much smaller holes, so that they couldn't escape or get their heads caught up. Then on the outside I have just placed some polystyrene tiles on the lid. Also on the inside is a large heatmat and it keeps around 24C temp.
