Yes, it is a Spanish Fire Salamander. (Salamandra salamandra almanzoris) I only just got her last week, she is only a baby. She is so cute, have been waiting to adopt her for quite a few weeks. I was being so choosy that I wanted a fire salamander that has NO yellow markings on the eyes. (They look scary with the yellow eye lids to me.) So here she is: Sorry the pics are not very good as she kept on hiding when I tried to take pics of her. Just can't wait for her to get a bit bigger now. I am still not too sure what she likes to eat. I ordered some live mealworms and crickets for her, and they should be arriving tomorrow. At the moment, she is just eating some dry food which I don't think she likes it that much.

salamader should only have a shallowish bowl of water, they can drown and are more terestrial than newts.
Also felix, i think crickets and mealworms will be too tough for her, if i were you i would feed her waxworms and earthworms :-)

My newts have eaten crickets with no problems. Earthworms are one of the easiest though.
*Awaits tank shots then* Lol

I will try waxworms and earthworms too. I think she is niddbling the dry, so she should be okay. Thanks. edit: I am thinking of giving her some bloodworm, since my newts and fishes are having them, but she might not like it anyway.

Lol that's ok Sarah. I think I've read that people have had probs with newts and crickets. Just mine haven't lol.
Do Sals have different mouths/digestive systems then?
Bloodworm is normally eaten by just about anything like this so she might like it lol.

My newts just eat bloodworm, daphnia and dry, I have not tried anything else at all, never really thought about it since they like what they're given. I just taken a lump of bloodworm out and am waiting for it to defroze, so she can have some tonight.

I have the amphibian pellets from pollywog and mine love them. They also eat cockles, mussel, shrimp, prawn (only sometimes with those though) bloodworm, daphnia and brineshrimp (bloodworm they'll always eat, the others not as often but more often than the cockles etc lol). They like tetra fresh delica and earthworms too.

TBH, I don't know if mine love them or not, have never seen them eat in front of me, but I assume they have eaten them. I have given those pellets to the Sal and it looks like she has eaten them too. Trust me, I really cannot tell. I will also try the shrimp and prawn on her when I give to my cats next time. ;D

The mealworm and crickets arrived this morning. Have given her the mealworm so far and she adores them. She just swallowed the whole one without problems. I don't know how to give her crickets though. I have a crickets container but it's too big to fit in her tank. I am scared of holding one with my fingers as any flying insects do not mix well with me. I have that phobia. LOL.
