my daughter keeps asking for 2 tortoises, i have been doing lots of research and was wandering if anybody here has any experience and advice they would like to offer. she is 18 and very responsible but has sight problems i am a bit worried about hibernation so have been looking into tortoises that do not hibernate 9i've forgootten what they are called) thanks aprillinda

you can look on pets classifieds, there are always some on there except you do have to pay usually approx £100 each

species of non hibernating tortoises would be more likely to be 200 pounds per tortoise. tortoises are lovely pets though if kept right. www.deanclacketttortoises.com/available.htmlvery good breeder. lots of species of torts that dont hibernate and his starter packs are good. email him and see what he can do for you.

I have one its a horsfields, i dont actually hibernate mine! Its risky when they are little so i never did it and now shes an adult but i still dont hibernate her because im scared! As far as ive been told not hibernating may shorten their life expectancy although this is not definate. Also whats the point in living longer if youve slept through most of your life??
Its best to find an older tortoise which may be slightly more expensive but the tiny hatchlings are much harder to look after and they are more likely to die which would be heartbreaking. Theya re expensive my tortoise has a big viv which was £100 then you have to get uv tubes replaced every so often and heat bulbs, my tortoise also has an outisde run which my parents had built shes very spoilt.
Edit- two tortoises might not be the best idea because in the wild they live alone and two males will fight and they do better kept alone. If you want two to breed they may well need seperate housing for when its not mating season.
