Hi everyone, I saw loads of these fab snails whilst at Shapwick Heath nature reserve near Glastonbury. Can anyone clarify if I have been right in thinking they are Succinea putris? Have these ever been kept/bred in captivity? Ads

yes it probably is.
I think in captivity it would be difficult to re-create their wetland environment. I think I saw that someone kept them once, but I doubt it would be a great idea really.

I agree, it was so strange to see them all crawling accross the pathway.

Gosh glad I saw this - I also found one of these today in crawling across the pavement on my way to work. Good to have it identified. People must have thought I was mad trying to pick it up without damaging it! I put it on the verge in the long grass, there was a stream nearby but that was right across the road from it so it must have travelled a fair distance to get where it was.
