i really can't think what would have caused that...is the snail very old? have you looked it up on the website? I don't think there would be much chance of it living i very sorry...is she still with us today?

That's very unusual, do you know how it could've happened?
The snail will definitely die.

Maybe it's gonna live if you put it in a moist area... But for how long? How it's going today?

this happened a week or so ago to my friends Fuli (i posted a help on here) her fuli was less than 8mths old the kindest thing is to freeze the snail as i was told - they cannot live outside the shell & i dont like to think of them hurting so sorry

its ok it dint really suffer. i put it out of its misery pretty much straight after starting this thread after finding out they cant live without the shell. seemed unfair so i think i did the best thing . no idea how it happened. all the others are fine.

I think that snail has attracted some very bad virus and need to be separated from the others at once

Sorry to read about your Snail. You did the most humane and kindest thing, though. Kudos to you.
Just keep a close eye on the others for a while, and I would advise you to clean out the tank, just in case.

not been online for ages and only just seen this. I'm sure it#s not a virus or anything contagious, it sounds like a very bad mantle tear...the muscle that keeps the snail in it's shell. It's usually caused by a fall or because the snail is in poor health or old etc.
Happened to one of mine...I saw it happen too. It was under the other two and decided it would have a climb up the side of the tank...and took the other two with it. The weight of the other snails caused the mantle to tear slightly and the shell was hanging off. I put it in a shallow tank where it couldn't climb about much and a few weeks later it was fine and dandy again.
