Hey - sorry I haven't been around much recently! Very busy with my final year of A levels and such, I still pop in now and again, but I haven't got much time to post!
Anyway, everything with my two snails, Arnie and Martha, (one fulica, one iredaeli) has been going well - my fulica I think has stopped growing (or slowed down alot at least!) and he's pretty small - I think that could be due to mites last year which are all gone now thank god! My iredaeli is now bigger than Arnie, and she's been growing well, eating lots and they've both seemed happy and healthy.
A few days ago, I noticed Arnie looked like he'd sealed himself into his shell. Not retracted far back, but there was definately a thin film over the entrance to his shell. I gave him a warm bath, and he came out pretty much straight away, looking fine, and since he's been eating fine and has seemed ok. I put it down to the tank being a little dry - he was in the corner behind a plant pot where the heat mats are, and try as I might that area dries out pretty quickly.
Just now, I noticed Martha was in the same spot, and I thought I'd check on her as I hadn't seen her yesterday (I'm used to my snails binge eating then sleeping for a day or so!) and she was sealed in. Again, she wasn't really retracted, but this time the 'film' over the shell entrance was quite thick and hard, and it was clear. It took what seemed like ages (probably 5 - 10 mins) of bathing to get her to wake up - I got quite worried. Now she's awake, nothing looks different about her - right now she's hitching a ride on Arnie's back!
I've got no idea what could have caused this - I've done nothing differently, the temperature has been ok... any ideas? I'm quite worried and don't want this to happen again
