I've just been downstairs, and came back up to find Ralph upside down on his cuttle fish looking thoroughly confused, he must have fallen off the roof?! i dont know how/why he never has before! but i flipped him over and OMFG! there is a biiiiig hole in his new shell growth, which is brand new and so really thin here's a picture: EDIT oh dear, its like a big flap of shell has come loose :/ what do i do? help! any help and or advice is much appreciated, thanks in advance alex

I know it looks awful but the new growth is actually much easier to mend than old growth. Make sure he has all calcium he can eat and it'll mend itself in no time.

it literally is Brand new growth, it appeared within the last 48hours, and he has just chewed the loose bit off, and im looking at it: it can only be 1 layer thick! he eats lots of cuttle fish,

GALS do have a tendancy to fall off the roof - a good reason never to have hard tank ornaments like rocks, fish ornaments, ceramics etc. The new growth will regrow very quickly, just provide plenty of cuttlefish

When my poor little Charles took his fall, he did the same thing - within 3 days he was all fixed, and in 2 weeks, he has grown himself another INCH of shell - so Ralph will sort himself out fine!
He'll probably even have a battle scar to prove his courage ;D
