Hi all!
I have a couple of rescued garden snails. The bigger one seems to have developed opaque white patches on its body, including a large saddle-like area on its back. Anyone know what this is and whether it's serious?
many thanks!!

Hi Frank Is it possible to post a pic of the affected snail? Are these white patches raised? Are they the same texture as the normal skin of the snail? Is the snail behaving normally?

Hi! Sorry I didn't write back sooner, it took me ages to see him fully extended again - and now he seems fine. Very mysterious.

I'm glad he seems back to normal. Maybe it was just one of those things.

He there, I'm new to snails as pets and my first one was actually a Helix Aspersa that I found in a Celery Case at Sobeys. As the celery is from california, I'm guessing that's where my guy came from.
I've noticed the same thing with Gary (the snail) He's developed white opaque patches at the apex of his shell and some running down. It looks almost as if someone's taken a drop of bleach and let it run down the shell.
Are you using peat by any chance?
