Yup that's the one, Muddy homed him from elsewhere and rehomed him to me. it's the largest scar I've seen on a snail so far..... (I am right that he's originally a recue isn't he?) Racking my brains now to see if I've remembered right..... Sorry I'm going off topic.

yup from that ebay auction, an ex 6ish year olds pet. I'm really happy he's got a good home with you! and i adore Glaedr (the large rodatzi with bad shell damage) (named after a large gold dragon with a missing leg and eye - i think) so suited him! hes just great such a character! (also from the same lot) as is the unnamed margie, and jade and BOB (black onyx beauty) - he has very dark skin and i had to get such a great abbreviation name . All other snails you got from me were rescues too (the bad shell damage fulica and the jade and another fulica if i remember correctly as well as scar up there) - actually have you named him atall? i always mentally refer to him as scar for obvious reasons! urmm yes going off topic anyway example of scar tissue that isn't a problem and i'm sure theres been rescue tigers and margies from brixton with bad scarring that have been fine - presumably from the wild (well as fine as you can be considereing their treatment after capturing, but anyway thats another kettle of fish (or basket of snails maybe...)) anyway yes i blaim you Ness for leading me off topic!

Thanks, I do think his skin is painful atm as he will not let me touch it without retracting very quickly and he is barely coming out of his shell... however I hope that as he heals his skin will cease to be a problem for him apart from looking quite white and blotchy. Also, the good news is that after previously finding upto 30 worms a day on him I only found 4 yesterday!!! And one this morning!!! I really hope this means that he has a chance. The mites turned up yesterday and I have noticed them crawling around on him. Hopefully they will help him on the road to recovery. The most worrying thing at the moment is that since I got him (on the 6th) he has not eaten or pooped at all. I think that once he does I will be quite confident about his recovery but until then it is still not looking too good since he is so skinny and weak He is sat in a warm bath of gooey ground pumpkin seed filled water atm which seems to bring him out of his shell and I hope its helping kill off these nasty little worms. Oh btw that rodatzi is absolutely gorgeous!

Wow nice to hear that you are finding less and less worms in him Have you tried to offer him some kind of porridge? Cause that might be easier for him to eat than normal veggis. Hope he will recover soon

Thanks Bumblebee I have fed him on porridge, a kind of mushed pumpkin seed mix and soft/cooked foods (cooked sweet potato, mushed cucumber, mushed strawberry...) and he hasn't bothered with them yet as far as I can tell... but I will keep trying with him. Fingers crossed.

YAY! thats great the worms are almost gone maybe hell absorb some nutrients when hes in his pumpkin and stuff bath with any luck have you tried damp fish flakes for feeding - although on second thoughts they may encourage the worms... but my snails love it and its high protein which is what you want when trying to fatten him up again, maybe try it after the worms are gone. sweet potato is great too because theres so much nutrition in a small volume, which again is what you want when trying to get them to recover. After one of mine had just finished laying eggs i figured he might be hungry but tired from all his exersions so placed him on a bowl of damp fishflakes, grated sweet potato and limestone flour, was lapped up very greatfully you'ld never know hes just laid all those eggs after that and a nap best of luck oh and if you like wartorn rodatzis here's the other one i had to keep because he captured my heart (this one and the other one came together with some other snails, some of which went to ness and some i kept): Glaedr: hes got a big bit of shell damage and a large bit of the shell tip missing as you can see, but hes such a character and lovely

If you can find any white Smyrna or Calimyrna figs, cut one up and offer it to your snail. The seeds in white figs kill worms.

HE ATE!!! SIMON THE SNAIL JUST MUNCHED THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF A TOMATO!!!! Wow I feel so great atm! Lets just hope he keeps it up!!!! Coyote-I bought a fig... not sure if its a white one but I'll do some more fig hunting asap!! Muddydragon-your snail is beautiful! I want to steal him!! And I love the name btw... I will try him on fish flakes as soon as I can get my hands on them. Im also going to try some limestone powder too as he hasn't had any calcium for ages and it will prob be easier for him to eat. God I hope he keeps improving! I am so proud of the little guy

Thats so nice to hear that he ate =D Maybe mushy food is easier for him to eat, since the inside of tomatoes is a bit mushy At least him eating is a good sign thats one little slimy fighter you got there ^^

YAY! you must still keep us updated! hes a little fighter indeed! best of luck, so pleased he's doing well! thats brilliant, not much further to go now the worst is over when hes all better you must send us pics of your little war torn fella! and thankyou, but you cant steal him tee hee love him to pieces. the name is stollen from a book, the name is from a big gold dragon who has lost a leg, so i thought it was appropriate. (whom i like more than the main characters but nevermind lol!) along with the rider they are called the cripple who is whole, which also fits him quite well.

tee hee hee, yup love them, but didnt think much of the eragon film! - 1 of the things was not enough brom, in the book you get to love him but the film its meh la la la oops he died. and hes important in brisinger, so they're probably going to have to do flashbacks if they make a film of the other books, and what about angela too in the film *mutter* i also have a snail called oromis who has a tendancy top hitch a ride or glaedr (there is also elismera) Just finished reading Brisinger after being so excited when it came out but uni getting in the way of reading it. trouble is i'm not terribly keen on eragon or roran, and my favourites were/are Brom, Oromis and Glaedr and Angela! well if you've got as far as end of Brisinger you'll know why i'm slightly annoyed about that! they really are awsome, i want to read the next book! im sure the eldenari of glaedr will somehow save the day and help defeat galbatorix! gotta love dragons and dragon books (you'ld never guess from my name would you?) oh and elves elves are great! so a dragon elf combo? urmm yes anyway i'm wandering off topic

Well here's a Simon update. He has a flap of skin a couple of cm long just falling off him but the rest of his skin seems to be healing and isnt flaking off as much. I haven't seen a single worm for two days and he has started moving around his tank again (mainly to hide under lettuce leaves) I haven't noticed him eating anything since the tomato but its a bit difficult to tell as most of his food is mushy... As I type he is enjoying a green tea bath He is still very thin and retracts a good inch or two into his shell when he's startled but I'm hoping he will get better with time... I do love the little guy now!

Just a couple of picutures with him looking a bit poorley but a lot more active. I am a bit worried about the tiny warts that you can just make out on the back of his neck as these haven't popped and I don't want them to grow huge like the others. I am also worried about the large swelling on his neck, although different to the other warts, has still not gone down: You can see where the big swellings were in this picture on his foot near his neck looks swollen and slightly lighter: And how they've changed in this one... They have just disintegrated and fallen off. They really look awful for the poor guy but at least he's getting rid of the worms... You can tell he is going to be one lumpy blotchy snail when he gets better... bless him And here's one of him looking less scarred and just enjoying his bath

Unfortunately Simon didn't make it. He died last night. I am shocked as he was doing so much better. Thank you everyone who helped. At least he's no longer suffering

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sometimes a snail will pass away in spite of us doing our best for them. But he had a good life with you.
Rest in peace, Simon.
