Hi i have a cepaea hortensis snail, and i have a food dish, bathing dish, bark, vines and bushes i have almost everything it says you need for a happy snail, but my snail doesnt want anything to do with it! It eats the food then goes straight to the wall of my tank and climbs to the top, he then stays there until i move him down to the bottom, or when he eats. Does anyone know why he has this obsession to go up? Thanks, i am only a recent snail owner so i apreciate any help. Cheers

Assuming humidity and temperature are fine, I wouldn't worry some of mine do it, not as frequently as yours seems to be but I often find a couple upside down sleeping on the lid, and I have similar decorations ect

Hi, welcome to the forum Small snails like Cepaea and H. aspersa tend to climb up. It's just part of what they do (in the wild, it would keep them away from ground-based predators and out of contact with the hot ground so they don't overheat during hot weather). Still, it's possible the tank temperature and/or humidity might be out of the ideal range. Do you have a thermometer or hygrometer for the tank? Can you tell if it might be getting too dry or too damp in there, or too hot (those guys like it on the cool side)? It's also possible your snail is just sliming around his fabulous tank during the dead of night when you're asleep. Mine do! ;D (I have an aspersa, O. lactea and T. pisana, and they don't seem to like to be up and about any earlier than about 1 AM.)

I got a few hortensis myself, that when they where rather small, and they also tend to either stay at the roof, or in the tiny wee flowerpot i got in there, but since they are growing so nicely and eating their food, I'm not really worried. And I do see them being active when I go to bed around 22:00, since I got the habit to take a look at the snails to see everything is as it should be.
Temperature in my tank is around 20 c and moist is at 80%, so they mainly get same care as my africans, except the africans got it a bit warmer
