Frankie is fine = he's been living in the cabinet that houses my work computer (loving the warmth given off by the heatsink on the tower..)
.... but what about food?? IT seems gross to ME, to let is food get, well... nasty.. but it doesn't seem to bother HIM at ALL.
he's scooting all over the place, chowing down on the carrot, apple, banana & cuttlefish I put in there... but the banana is getting quite gross....
is it OK for him?? I think = it's NOT like these creatures have anyone cutting up & providing their food for them in the natural habitat & they probably DO eat semi-moldy stuff.. or stuff that is on the verge of total decay.... so... /shrug/

I'm not sure how bad it is for snails to eat bad food, since in the wild, they do probably eat alot of stuff that isn't so fresh... But still, the fresher the food is, the better it might be, since food that is kept in warmth do grow bacterias, and I have hard to believe that mold is good for any living creature. Not to nemtion that the food can also attrack different kinds of pests like mites, and those can, if it gets to many, bother the snail eventually.

It's good for snails eat little bit that nasty stuff. I don't see why I should throw food away if it isn't smelling or mouldy. I don't cook food neither and throw left overs away 'cos it would be "revolting" eat one day old food. I used gram scale to test how much snails eat so I have noticed they don't eat as much I use to offer them. So I don't need to serve them too much anymore something so know I know better how much offer food than before my scale test. I change food at last when it's mouldy or smelly or getting bad, I change food at night time when they are wake or earlier if I have loads of things to do. I change food when it's getting bad otherwise there is that fly problem and smell problem.. I don't understand why people change food at day time when snails are sleeping of course it get bad if snail sleeps whole day and many hours and food stays hours untouched. I have big problem first in summer with rotten food it don't get bad too quickly when you change food at night time in hot summer day food gets really soon bad if it has to stay still till someone wakes at night eat it.

I change my snail's food in the evening after dinner, so it doesn't sit around very long before they all wake up.
I do think that snails can tolerate eating food that's gone off a bit -- wilted, even a little bit moldy (but not too much). I would still want to have at least some fresh fruit and veg for them.

My snails normally burrow in moss during the day but i've noticed when food goes mouldy they stay on top of the tank and dont come down to eat, so i just give em food in the evening and take it out in the morning, leaving only the food that wont spoil during the day such as lettuce.

I use food dish for them otherwise I would have huge fly problem mostly in summer if food is served on soil. Baby snail is so small that he don't have food dish but he eat so little so no fly problem will come from his tube.

thanks all ;D
he did seem "happier"with the apple pieces that had gone "off", and REALLY hppy with the banana, regardless of state of decay
how about rinsing the cuttlefish?
I just dumped everything out of his tank this morning, including the cuttlefish pieces that were in there. seemed agreeable to the maintenance /haha

I just brush cuttlefish with water if it's dirty sometimes all you need is rinse it.
