my retic died last night ,he was out and eating when i went to bed,i just checked them this mornng and for some reason i pick him up i noticed a lot of fluid in his shell,he was half way back in his shell, slight smell so think he hadn't long gone, looks like he died whilst retrning back inside his shell, again think it might've been age,as did'nt know his,am really sad as he was one of my favs, and one of the first ones i got.

Aw that is sad. Had your retic laid eggs recently? Retics are known for having a high chance of dying after laying eggs. It's a shame what ever the cause. If not the eggs then it probably is just age.

That's such a shame. And Retics are my fave snails as well, such personality!
RIP Big Dude (was that his name?)

I'm so sorry for your loss, jacky. It is always sad when they pass away even though we do our best to take care of them, but he will have a place in your heart forever.
Rest in peace, big dude.

yeah my son named him,he was big dude, and we had a little felicia who was called little dude, when we lost the other retic i put little dude in as company for the other retic as i don't like to keep snails on there own,i lost the other one i'm sure partly due to bad compost, got some cheep, read all the bag,all said 100% natural pete free compost but all my snails went down hill,i went to the nearest garden center and after hours of reading bags of compost, came out with the one i use now and all my snails picked up apart from the retics one was very sluggish,i had to wake them up to get them to come out and eat,i thought they were getting better but then one went back down hill,so don't know weather age or he never fully recovered, the other got stronger and stronger and for the last two weeks was out in the tank and eating on his own so quite upset when found him like that,

That's horrible when that happens! I'd hate that to happen to me. He's really sluggish? That can't be good. I mean my Retics are the most active snails I've ever met. It's like they don't sleep.
