Right I now know the difference between achatina and archacatina, well I think I do. But what about lissachatina? This snail lark is soooo confusing ;D Can you keep different breeds in the same tank? Do they all need to be apart, Or is it achatina's in 1, archachatina's in another and so on?? Thank you Nat Just altered the title - paul

Lissachatina used to be a sub-genus so it was:
Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica.
but it was raised to:
Lissachatina fulica
because these snails are deemed to be different physiologically. They are more closely related to Achatina than Archachatina. It also appears there is no way of telling outwardly.
You can keep any species you wish mixed, but they can crossbreed. A Lissachatina can breed with an Achatina (we think!). But an Archachatina cannot breed with either. In some ways, it is probably best to mix Archachatina with the others but don't mix the others with each other if you wish to breed them.
