when a fulica dies is it possible for maggots or small worm creatures to take home in its shell? If so is this common and have any other members experienced this?

It depends really. There are many worms and nemetode worms commonly found within the substrate of the tanks, whether this be soil or coir. The majority are completely harmless and live on the organic matter within the substrate. Sometimes you will find some around a dead snail. These particular worms will not have been feeding on or in the living snail
It is unlikely that the worms contributed to the death of the snail, though I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility, as there are many many different worm and wrom-type creatures around. A few are parasitic to creatures, including snails.
Without identifying the little squiggly critters it's hard to say.
Or are you asking if the worms/maggots can make their home out of an EMPTY shell?
If you find them inside an empty shell the chances are they are feeding on the last little remnents of the dead snail.

the snail had been inactive since I got it so theres a possiblity it died in transit maybe and as a result the worms got in as part of the decaying process??
