i have had some small white mites in my tank for quite a while now, when i first got them they only seemed to be interested in the snails' food and poop but recently i have seen a few of them on the shells and skin of my fuli and retic. both seem to be ok, eating and moving around. i believe that these mites may be these new 'tick-like' ones: www.petsnails.co.uk/problems/mites.html#startmine are about a mm or two, look round, not long at all, move quite slowly (they don't react when touched or disturbed) and seem to have some kind of black or brown dot in the middle center of their bodies, i can see that they have legs. they still seem to be mainly interested in the snails poop (i just got back from holiday on saturday and there were loads on the left over poop, so i cleaned out the tank fully today. so does anyone have any idea if they are traditional Riccardoella mites or these new (worse!!??) tick-like mites as i would like to try and treat them as soon as possible. thank you. (i will try and get some pics up but i can't see that they'll do much good as the mites are so small)

I get these in the tank from time to time (if they're the same ones). I've never seen them on the snails. They seem to be mostly interested in pumpkin seeds.
Hypoaspis will help keep their numbers down, but they can't manage the adults, only the smaller ones. Perhaps a big clean out followed by at least one dose of hypoaspis?

i will probably use hypoaspis in the end, but i just wanted to be sure that they will actually be effective before i spend that much...
