Hi everyone hope you are all well and had a good christmas ...I have not been around for a while I have had some health issues , so I have just seen the postings on the blondies and sorry if the subject has been done to death but since we own 2 in fact they are the only land snails we have at the moment I thought I would tell you the conditions we keep our two in..who are doing well , but in my opinion are the most lazy laid back snails I have ever known LOL.
First of all we met up with Paul at Bolton so these snails have never been in the royal mail.
We got 12 off Paul 2 we kept and 10 went on ebay for charity...I think val had a couple off us but we have not heard how the rest are fairing.
we keep our 2 in a small plastic tank which is kept on top of a large fish tank...no other heating added though the tank lights keep it pretty warm and I have my heating on rarely due to me not being able to stand much heat...they are in peat which we microwave to get rid of nastys and a lump of spagnum moss which is not green anymore...I only spray and bath them once a week with bottled water and I add liquid calcium to the spray...we have noticed that these little boogers like tiny amounts of chopped up or mashed food if we put big lumps of food in they just oil off bottoms sticking out under the moss and sleep for a few days and I leave them..I get a piece of cucumber and make tiny criss cross cuts in it then they will eat it..I dont think we do anything different than others and in my humble opinion I think this is the nature of these snails..we keep tons of different types of aquatic snails and each of them have not only individual trates but also species trates...if that makes sense...I have not seen this blistering but I will look out for it now I know about it.
I will get Daz to take some pics of them so we can see if they are all growing at the same rate..except the runts but we cant do anything about them..oohh yes I have noticed over the last week or so they have been more active..nothing has changed and I am looking at them now last night they scoffed all night..I know because I did not sleep well and kept getting up..one of them has gone back under the moss and the other was so full he slid over the food pot and just crashed out on top of the peat with his foot out but asleep..weird or what LOL...Linda
