Also, had anyone heard of "buglogical control systems"? They sell the hypoaspis mites... but this is my first time buying, so don't know if they are reputable or not. Anyone else ever use them?

Mites!

Morningcoffee... those are the mites I have. Can you give me all the possible names for the good predatory mites that eat these bad ones?
Also, is it safe to use in a tank with regular garden snail eggs, (or babies, as they are soon to hatch), and rolly-pollies, (also called wood lice)?
My snails seem to tolerating them ok... still fairly active, eating may be a bit less... baths are helping. But I'm noticing more on my weaker snail with the cracked shell... I'm concerned about his health.

I found an area within this Forum where there was voting for the name of a snail magazine. I guess the thread is closed as I could not post to it. But I do have some questions...
1) Is there a snail magazine? 2) How can I get it?... and,
3) If it isn't named yet... My vote goes for "The Snaily News"... lol!!

Do you keep thermometers in your tanks?

Mites!

Thank u Cashell! I've been looking on line. And I am finding some stuff, but I think they also go by another name, so I would like to be sure it's the same mite. Also, it seems some containers have more than one species, and in addition to my snails, and also have 3 Rolly-Polly bugs so need to make sure the species I get is safe for them too.

Yes... so sorry!! I hope u can take some comfort in knowing u did everything u could for him. He died loved. Two of mine seem better today, thanks. They were active this morning and very frisky. But my 3rd, I am really concerned about. He has a pretty weak shell... It was cracked when I got him, and it's getting worse. The mites seem to flock to him as if they know he is weak. Not sure what to do...

Hi! I am having the same problems with my snails, so would love to hear some feedback from the experts... (I am new to keeping snails and still learning. And thank you so much for putting this resource together, forum leaders!!) I have noticed some small white mites on my snails and am wondering if that is the cause. I don't see tons of them, and when I do see them... I have been trying to wash them off by putting the snails under luke-warm running tap water. (I think our tap water here is pretty good, but how would I find out about chlorine levels...?). They don't seem affected by the water and I do keep a shallow dish in their tank with that same water, but it probably sits out 24hrs before they go into it. Anyway, after they have their little baths, they do seem to get a bit more active. Maybe eating a bit, but then always going back to sealing in. They just don't seem happy. Please help! Should I try getting some predatory mites? Also, I have 2 clutches waiting to hatch, and would they be safe from the mites, or predatory mites... If I go that route? I should also mention these are just common garden snails, and we keep 3 roly-poly bugs with them too. (These are also called pill bugs, and I think I've heard them referred to also as wood lice). Roly-polies sound way cuter to me and the kids though! They have been co-habitating smoothly with our 3 snails for months now, and provide for some comical interactions. But just another consideration... As whatever changes I make, need to be safe for them too.
