Hello! I've just found my way to this forum and have a couple of questions. I have four different Achatina species. 1 Achatina achatina (his friend died less then a week after they had moved in with me) 6 Achatina fulica 4 Achatina immaculata, and 4 Achatina iredalei All but the fulicas are just babies (the fulicas are not adult yet, but very large) and I was wondering if it would be possible to put the achatina, immaculatas and iredalei together? At least until they get larger. In this thread petsnails.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=habitat&action=display&thread=9706 someone said that she had heard bad things about immaculatas attacking other snails. How, why, and is it true?Thank you for your time!

Hi there, welcome to the forum! Please see this thread over on Bugnation for one person's experience with keeping another snail with immaculata. bugnation.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4405&sid=54580f1c0d22d03ede56057c2bff64e3It certainly does seem to be a potential problem to put other snails in with immaculata. Some people have doubtless kept them together without any problems, but for the sake of your snails' safety, I'd advise against it. Also, although I don't have any personal experience with iredalei, I remember hearing several times that they tend to become withdrawn and unhappy if kept with snails of other species and that they may eventually die. Iredalei seem to be far happier when kept with their own species only. As for the fulica and tiger snail (Achatina achatina), they should be fine to live together once the tiger is older, however tigers tend to like it quite warm and you may have to get the temperature acceptable for both species with some trial and error. I wouldn't recommend putting a baby snail in with much larger snails, but you could put him in a tub/smaller tank within the main fulica tank. Hello! Thank's! That's horrible! Poor little snail! Does this behaviour apply to ALL sub-species of Achatina immaculata, or just the panthera? As I said, my immaculatas are just babies yet, and they aren't supposed to start eating at other snails until they were adult, right? Don't they eat at each other then? I won't have the achatina with the fulicas, since the fulicas isn't that happy with the high temperature. They do like it very humid though, in spite of everything I've read. I tried to put the A. iredalei in with my Achatina achatina yesterday, and they are all very avtive. They have even managed to make my little achatina active. Usually I almost never see him. I hate to have him alone, that's why I would like to put him with some of my other snails until I have managed to find som more babies of his own specie. He has been almost as active as my fulicas tonight, which means that he has been visible all night and all day. He and the Iredaleis are about the same size too. It was very cute to see how curios he was at the iredaleis. But if I'll see the iredaleis getting unhappy, I will of course put them in their own habitat again. This is just an emergency solution since I clearly can see that my little achatina is unhappy and inactive in his loneliness. Thank you for your answer!
