I've had quite a lot of achatinas with that deep purple - always thought they were either a variant of immaculata or were stulmanhi (spelling?!) or something.

The nepionic whorls need checking. If they are smooth, they are immaculata of some variant. I don't know conclusively if every other Lissachatina can't have a red columella, but of ones we know something about and that could possibly have a red columella in some case, like albopicta, they are quite different in outward appearance anyway.
These ones look to me like what we would probably call Achatina immaculata var. panthera "Brown Form". Essentially though that means they are just a common, plain-shelled variety of the nominate immaculata. Historically the slimmer ones were regarded as panthera, so if they are slim we'd probably mention panthera to show the history. And if not, they'd just be Achatina immaculata.
