Hi every one! Happy new year! I just wondered, as I watch my albino ovums grow up daily, if albino snails grew smaller than regular coloured snails; or if their genetic code didn't change in any way as far as size is concerned? I have seen pics on the web where the albino snail looked smaller than the others... Is this just an impression, or are the albino ones more delicate and thus less hug than the others? How big can I expect my albino ovums to grow up? Many thanks my snaily friends !

In any given clutch of eggs, some snails will grow up smaller than their clutchmates. I've seen milk snail clutches where some of the snails wound up half the size of their brothers and sisters who were the same age. It may just be coincidence that yours happen to be some of the smaller guys.

Not sure if they end up smaller as I have no albino adults, but I have noticed mine grow alot slower but they spend alot of time hiding so I assume eat less. Once they get bigger and braver though they seem to spend less time hiding

Many many snail keepers have found that their albino fulica grow smaller than others. It appears to be an inherited trait but there is speculation as to the cause. Interestingly not everyone has small adult albino fulica, but it is a common finding.

I only have albino snails, thus I can't compare with regular coloured ovums. I don't know if they are actually smaller than individuals of their age : they look healthy and carry on building their shells. They eat a lot and spend their nights crawling the tank, so I suppose they will will grow up fairly well. I was more wondering about inherited traits, as Ness proposed. I hope mine won't be too undersized, for the hugeness of the marginata is also what I like in this species. I would like to know if people who have albino ovums find them smaller than their regular coloured ones... Thank you for your answers!!
