Hi all,
Im new to snails and to the forum, so apologies if Im asking something thats already been answered. I did do a search and read the info on the website but am still not clear..
My little fulica snail (Simon) is not eating at all. We've had him since Christmas and previously he lived at my mother in laws for 4 weeks where he was said to be eating plenty of lettuce, apple and his favourite, cucumber.
Since coming home he's not been keen to eat at all. He spends all his time buried and despite trying different types of foods and putting fresh food in regularly he just doesnt touch it.
In the early days we dug him out (oops if this was the wrong thing to do) and stuck him on a piece of cucumber, which he ate some of before going back to his hole. We tried the same again last night but he ignored the cucumber, had a quick nose in his water dish then went back to his hole.
I thought maybe he was too cold or dry so have bought a heat mat and fitted it to the outside of one end of the tank (about a week ago) and have bought a hygrometer and thermometer to monitor conditions. Im waiting for a new spray bottle to arrive from ebay but have been splashing drops of water round the tank every other day to keep the humidity up. Ive also bought some silk plants which Ive put down one end of the tank to provide some shelter and to try and keep some moisture in. Im also waiting on some sphagnum moss off ebay too!
All in all, Im trying everything to get the little guy to be more active and eat, but nothing seems to be working. Im more worried about the fact he hasnt touched his cuttlefish in weeks than anything else, as when I last picked him up the opening of his shell (the new bit) looks paper thin and almost transparent.
Really worried about him. Hated the idea of a snail in the house, didnt want him when my son was given him but now I love him dearly and just feel like I dont know enough about him to take proper care! Poor feller! Please help!!
