On the morning of March 16th, I found a new snail on my sister's front porch! She's a yellow and brown grove snail like my others, but has only a single brown band to their five. She's really lovely, her body has a pinkish earthworm coloration. I have since named her Ariel, and she and Lenore moved into the fancy ten gallon tank on the first day of Spring. I hadn't moved Lenore previously because I didn't want her to be alone and the babies are too small to be in that tank. They seem to like it a lot.
On the 29th I went snooping through my sister's garden again to see if I could find them some more company. I didn't find any adult snails, only three empty shells and a lot of slugs. However, I did find a baby snail roughly the same age as mine. I named her Vivian. She's smaller than Calvin but bigger (like everyone) than Wallace, the poor little runt LOL. She's a rascally little thing! I thought I'd lost her the first day I introduced her to the others; she'd climbed onto the spray bottle nozzle when I misted the air plant they were playing on!
That same morning I found another new friend. Her name is Bridget and she's a TINY baby banana slug. I've never kept one because I've never managed to find them! They're supposed to be really prolific in this region, so they must be really good at hiding. I was excited to begin with, and then my brother Patrick told me that, in addition to growing to be huge, they can live up to fifteen years! I told him I felt like I'd brought home a puppy! A great Dane as it turns out; she's grown by a third of her body length in the week that I've had her.
The three of them have made wonderful additions to my little gastropod family.
