Hi, Please all have a look at my new site : thesnailsite.webs.com/. It is still work in process, but I aim for it to cover all the aspects of owning a snail in detail! Please all sign up and let me know what you think so far!

Hi Again,
I know everyone is busy, but people just don't seem to be replying to any of my posts!
I put a link of the Brixton Snails petition on my new site - I know the starter of the petition is on this forum, so is that okay?
Thanks

As far as I know it's okay, as long as it's okay with the starter of the petition.

Lovely site, and I especially like the snails in other languages page. That is a nice touch. I agree with the sentiments behind the petition and appreciate you putting that on your site and for letting us know. However personally I feel that it's not a simple case of 'this is cruel so it should stop' as this is people's livelihoods here. I think a petition needs to have some details or suggestions of a solution to the problem and some education on what would constitute better conditions. Whether or not we like the fact that snails are sold for food is a fairly moot point really, being as there is a large meat industry. In the face of the fact that the majority of people in the UK eat meat is it right to take snails off the menu? I am appalled by the reported conditions of the snails in Brixton Market and agree that something should be done, but I don't think a 'ban the trade' petition will work. Personally i think there would be more success in highlighting their conditions and suggesting improvements (ideally easy to implement) and the benefits to both the snail AND the industry (i.e. the quality of the meat) from improving the snails conditions. Also one major issue is the fact the Achatina achatina are sometimes found at the market, and these are being over-collected, leading to them becoming harder to find in the wild. this really does appear to be having a bad impact upon the wild population. A recommendation that this species should not be caught for the food industry would perhaps be a benefit. I'm not trying to say that the petition is wrong, just that I doubt that it will achieve the aim and that the people concerned are m ore likely to listen if you include a few more points and show that you understand the industry. Please don't be offended. I do agree with the sentiments of it, and I very much hope that you prove me wrong, as I'd love to see a ban on importing snails for food

I have just signed the petition dear, I am horrified by this. As for your forum, I will have a look but I am currently trying to answer posts on seven forums and it isn't easy.
