Hi,
brunni: thanks for solid information and help.......
.
As brunni has pointed out already, there´s no book or internet source in which you can find descriptions and/or figures of
all Achtinidae species (as far as I know........). Unfortunately you have to look into several books or papers to get a rough overview, at least. Some time ago, I collected some citations concerning the Achatinidae:
BEQUAERT, J.C. (1950): Studies in the Achatininae, a group of African land snails -- Bulletin of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard College
105 (1): 1-216, 82 pls.
BRUGGEN, A.C. van (1965): Two new species of Achatinidae (Mollusca, Gastropoda Pulmonata) from the Drakensberg Range, with general remarks on Southern African Achatinidae -- Revue de Zoologie et Botanique Africaines
71: 79-91
BRUGGEN, A.C. van (1972): New data on Southern African Achatinidae (Mollusca, Gastropoda Pulmonata) -- Zoologische Mededelingen, Leiden 47 (Feestbundel L.D. Brongersma): 513-529
BRUGGEN, A.C. van (2010): A new record of ‘Achatina’ vassei GERMAIN, 1918 (Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Achatinidae) from Mozambique – an unsolved problem -- Zoologische Mededelingen, Leiden
84 (4): 37-46, fig. 1-12, table 1
24: 358-370
MARTENS, E. von (1897): Beschalte Weichthiere Deutsch-Ost-Afrikas -- Dietrich Reimer (Ernst Vohsen) Berlin
MEAD, A.R. (1994): A new subfamily and genus in Achatinidae (Pulmonata: Sigmurethra) -- Bulletin of the National History Museum, Zoology Series
60: 1-37
MEAD, A.R. (1995): Anatomical studies reveal new phylogenetic interpretations in Lissachatina (Pulmonata: Achatinidae) -- Journal of Molluscan Studies
61 (2), 257-273
MEAD, A.R. (2004): Comparative reproductive anatomy in the South African giant land snails (Gastropoda: Pulmonata: Achatinidae) -- Zoologische Mededelingen, Leiden
78: 417-449
VERDCOURT, B. (2006): A revised list of the non-marine Mollusca of East Africa (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, excluding Lake Malawi) -- 1-75 [with two sheets of Errata and Corrigenda]. Published by the author, Maidenhead, U.K.
The paper of Bequaert (1950) deals with only one
subfamily, so the title is: "Studies
in the Achatini
nae......".
Onother source of information is
www.archive.org (for older papers).
I wish you lots of fun reading all these papers (at long winter evenings and nights......
.
Kind regards: wolf
